Problem of the Week

Updated at Dec 26, 2022 2:04 PM

To get more practice in equation, we brought you this problem of the week:

How would you solve the equation \(4u+2+4{u}^{2}=82\)?

Check out the solution below!

\[4u+2+4{u}^{2}=82\]

1
Move all terms to one side.
\[4u+2+4{u}^{2}-82=0\]

2
Simplify  \(4u+2+4{u}^{2}-82\)  to  \(4u-80+4{u}^{2}\).
\[4u-80+4{u}^{2}=0\]

3
Factor out the common term \(4\).
\[4(u-20+{u}^{2})=0\]

4
Factor \(u-20+{u}^{2}\).
\[4(u-4)(u+5)=0\]

5
Solve for \(u\).
\[u=4,-5\]
