How can we factor \(5{y}^{2}-24y-36\)?

Split the second term in \(5{y}^{2}-24y-36\) into two terms.
\[5{y}^{2}+6y-30y-36\]

Factor out common terms in the first two terms, then in the last two terms.
\[y(5y+6)-6(5y+6)\]

Factor out the common term \(5y+6\).
\[(5y+6)(y-6)\]
