Problem of the Week

To get more practice in equation, we brought you this problem of the week:

How can we solve the equation \({(3(4-4w))}^{2}=0\)?

Check out the solution below!

\[{(3(4-4w))}^{2}=0\]

1
Factor out the common term \(4\).
\[{(3\times 4(1-w))}^{2}=0\]

2
Simplify  \(3\times 4(1-w)\)  to  \(12(1-w)\).
\[{(12(1-w))}^{2}=0\]

3
Use Multiplication Distributive Property: \({(xy)}^{a}={x}^{a}{y}^{a}\).
\[{12}^{2}{(1-w)}^{2}=0\]

4
Simplify  \({12}^{2}\)  to  \(144\).
\[144{(1-w)}^{2}=0\]

5
Divide both sides by \(144\).
\[{(1-w)}^{2}=0\]

6
Take the square root of both sides.
\[1-w=0\]

7
Subtract \(1\) from both sides.
\[-w=-1\]

8
Multiply both sides by \(-1\).
\[w=1\]
